The price will only change if you have selected "Add Variant surcharge to display price" from Settings > Store Settings > Store Front Settings.
For example if the main price (Our Price) is $0 and "Add Variant surcharge to display price" is not selected, it will only show the $0, whether a variant is selected or not.
